Stepathlon Kids

Fitness is the next rising industry in the startup space, given the amount of investor interest they are seeing both from celebrity cricketers and well-known entrepreneurs. Cricketer Virat Kohli on Tuesday kicked off a new fitness venture Stepathlon kids in a joint venture with Stepathlon Lifestyle to promote fitness among children.

The company will begin with the launch of a nationwide, 30-day, pedometer-based, mass participation virtual race, built to promote fitness among children. Initially, targeting the eight to 12 years age bracket through this campaign, Stepathlon Kids’ target for the first year is to reach 50,000 children, aiming to use technology positively in reaching out via a gamified environment. It will, they say, encourage teamwork and healthy competition, while being educational and fun.

They are making the industry much more efficient, both for consumers and trainers, by deploying technology to make services more personalised.

Last year, Virat Kohli invested around Rs 90 crore in Chisel Fitness, a Bengaluru-based fitness centre which recently announced plans to introduce technology-enabled, gamified workout routines and add 100 more centres in the next two years.

Virat Kohli said, “Children are the foundation of our country and their health and fitness will play a very important role in our country’s progress. I see many parents have great aspirations for their children, just like mine did. In order to achieve these goals, my appeal to all parents would be to first ensure your child is fit, healthy and happy. Stepathlon Kids is a first of its kind and much-needed offering in our country, and I’m sure Stepathlon will replicate the success it has witnessed in the corporate space. I will be substantially involved in the development and promotion of Stepathlon Kids to achieve our goal to create a healthier nation through the future of India – our kids.”

“We will generate revenues from a combination of sponsorships, partnerships, licensing and merchandising for the medium to long term,” said Ravi Krishnan, CEO, Stepathlon Lifestyle.
