Nothing motivates like hunger. Not specifically talking about life goals with Stay Hunger Stay Foolish stereotypes, but it absolutely sparks the motivation to taste the best food around. What can be better than “Maa Ke Haath Ka Khaana” and who else can better relate to it than those who stay away from home. The Kolkata based startup JabWeAte has the same take on it. Owing to the ever rising tough competition around, many of us have to leave our families and migrate to cities where learning and earning opportunities are better. Amidst all the various things one misses, “Ma ke haath ka khana” is at the top of the list. JabWeAte, they just get it!

Not only do they cook food, they cook happiness.

This is an on-demand food supply startup where they deliver multiple cuisines like Indian, Mexican, Italian, Chinese and Thai. Apart from this, cakes and desserts are like toppings over the cream.

What’s their founding story?

Someone told us one day, “Love cannot be described, it must be tasted”, so we came up with an initiative to charge up the hungry bellies with the most relished home-made food, as the founder Saurabh Dhanuka puts it.

Often, we are challenged with the question – ‘Aaj Khaane mein kya hai?’ It is a crisis for many who have no time to cook and eat healthy, home-cooked food. For those away from home, the situation gets even bitter.

They decided to start JabWeAte to solve this problem. This on-demand, food delivery startup has its special focus on healthy, home-cooked food which can be eaten on a daily basis.

As the founder describes it, the dishes served at JabWeAte is all home cooked and no fancy dishes. On seeing other startups grow with dedication and hard work, especially of his age class, he decided to put his hard work and dedication too to change the scenario for the better. Success belongs to those who dare to dream. Just like any zealous entrepreneur, Saurabh always wanted to have something of his own. It’s better be late than never.

Core Team. Core Challenges.

Saurabh is single-handedly looking after operations, sales, marketing and finance. They have three chefs and delivery boys who deliver food in the entire city as of now.

When it comes to real marketing, he believes that the idea is the biggest marketing tool for any start up. However, since he’s from a digital marketing background so he could handle the marketing himself. He outsourced graphics work to another startup friend of his. He personally believes that networking is very important for any company, as one never knows who can help them at any point of time.

No big shots are involved in this start up. The founder seed funded it and has invested everything from his savings. Six months of extensive research since the commencement on business models, opinion polls, and deciding on the various intricacies like the vendors, the venue, the brand name, taglines, color combination and every nuance detail, he started JabWeAte in Kolkata.

So what is giving them a competitive edge? Let’s find out

The biggest value proposition is they make sure that the food is served hot and fresh to the customers. At JabWeAte, they start cooking only when they get the order, making sure the food never gets wasted. The founder himself did a lot of R&D before beginning this. People in IT zone of Kolkata crave for good food delivered to their offices.

They do not seem to be boasting that they are the best but yes they are trying everyday to surpass their competitors. Generally food delivery people offer same routine menu but here, buyers are offered thali system of cuisines from across the country like Punjabi, Rajasthani, Gujarati, Sindhi, Bengali and so on. It has been done to make sure that people have lots of choices to make.

JabWeAte claims to have served 2500 happy meals so far.

Changes and Challenges

The biggest challenge in food delivery is retaining the delivery boys. At the end of the day, the buyers bidding a thumbs up to your service is what counts. And that’s possible only when food delivered to your customers is fresh and on time. Hunger kills patience. Hence, they have made it a priority that the delivery boys are well motivated to work efficiently.

As their next move, they want to introduce more and more innovative dishes that can be eaten at home while relaxing with family. They’re willing to start food delivery after mid night specially catering to those who crave for good food working in BPOs and IT sectors. The idea is to do something different everyday.

What budding entrepreneurs can learn from JabWeAte!

Right from the founder’s desk, “I’ve a small suggestion for entrepreneurs. Focus on one thing at a time, rather jumping on multiple things. Patience is virtue. Give time to your startup. Don’t rush. You have done a lot of hard work to make it happen.”
