Doing the right thing at the right time means a lot. In the male dominated society, you must have heard this phrase a lot, it’s a common saying- Better Late Than Never. Many people do live on this phrase; at least saves a lot of people from spending their whole life in regret of not following their dreams. But that’s a different issue altogether. It makes a nice topic of philosophical discussion over a cup of coffee; or at least to pass the semester. :p
Getting to the topic, we- the women don’t live on phrases. They live on doubts and uncertainties. Doubts about future, marriage, which dress to wear and the list will go on. Coming to uncertainties, that is what binds them down to their life, existing life which is often boring and doesn’t recognize their inner talents. Let’s do a reality check. What do you think are the things that always preoccupy a woman’s mind?
Family. Kids. Shopping.
Can you think of something else? Many of you won’t even try to think. But the truth is almost 45% of the women out there are more interested in being a successful entrepreneur than wearing matching shoes with their dresses. So, the question is Why are there so less women entrepreneurs? The most common dilemma that most aspiring womentrepreneurs are into is about the right time of getting into entrepreneurship.
Although we live in a society that says Men and Women are looked upon equally, we all know that it is not the case. If a guy says after marriage that he wants time from his 5 year old and wife for now and pursue his dream of being an entrepreneur then he is being responsible to give his family a better future. But if a woman says the same to her guy, then she is being selfish. There lies the difference and in a way it acts as a cage to all the women entrepreneurs out there. The society needs to free her and allow her to follow her dreams because a woman never sacrifices and plays all her parts skilfully. In the middle of all her so-called responsibilities and family, when is the exact time for a woman to become an entrepreneur? Should she wait for her kids to grow up first or wait for her responsibilities to lighten a bit? Both the situations are actually equivalent to waiting for Mallya voluntarily returning the money to banks out of his own pocket.Chances are not completely zero, but definitely tends to zero. No L’Hospital’s Rule can solve that.
I think I have raised your interest enough by now to actually know the answer what we are looking for. Yes, I can hear your mind shouting “C’mon THS, the nation wants to know.” Just Kidding. Your mind, your rules :p
The answer is Now.Yes ladies and gentlemen. The right time is now and it’s completely subjective. The right time lies
Where the mind is without fear
and the head is held high,
where knowledge is free.
This small excerpt from the creations of Rabindranath Thakur stands as an inspiration to many, especially to all womaniya out there. When you have an idea, when you have a dream, when you have knowledge and when you are ready that is your right time to change your dreams of entrepreneurship into reality.
Some may prefer when they are in college as it gives them a direct insight into the market as a user. On the other hand, some may prefer after having a job experience of about four to five years to gain maturity. Some may want it after their kids are grown enough to handle themselves while some may want to have it all settled and successful before entering motherhood. As said earlier, it’s completely subjective and varies from person to person according to their comfort.
So why are we talking here if it has to depend on the person? We are here to let everyone know what we are collectively doing wrong.
We are all waiting for the right time and unknowingly letting it slip out of our hands.
Just sitting back won’t assure anything thing in life. Effort needs to be made. If you have an idea, go about it. Get resources, raise funds, form your team, lead the army. In case you don’t have an army, run it yourself. All you need is confidence in yourself, in your own idea and in your efforts.
Almost sixty percent of the womentrepreneurs start their business as a second profession or a supplementary income source to support their family.
Young girls like Sarah Prevette and Ashley Qualls who are not even thirty in age are doing big with their respective start-ups. At the same time, in some part of the world women like Mary Tennyson and Gail Dunn are running their start-ups successfully. It was their decision to enter the world of start-ups and going by the age when they did enter it can be well noted that they didn’t exactly wait for the right time, rather they made the time right for them with their actions and determination.
If you have a dream, you gotta protect it.
That’s what is of utmost importance ladies! Never let anyone think low of you or your dreams. Instead keep working to show the world that a woman can think more than heels and dresses; and nothing can stop her once she has made her mind upon doing something.
To all the ladies out there, if it is your family and domestic responsibilities not allowing you to materialize your dream, learn the art to balance. Easier said than done. But sometimes, that’s the only way. It’s often that only when you come out of your comfort zone that you realize your true potential. If it’s your age holding you back from realizing your dreams, tell your knees that they have more work left giving up.
Nothing will ever be right if we are looking for excuses. It’s a go and grab it world of entrepreneurs where you need to make a mark. And if you miss the Do It Now train, do remember Better Late Than Never.
One life is enough for a woman to prove herself (that too with matching heels :p). Go Womaniya!
