As entrepreneurs, each one of you have enormous life goals and it’s exciting, exhilarating and at times terrifying. But having certain daily habits can work wonders for you. These habits act like anchors, they hold you down and no matter what happens you know you’ll follow them. Habits form a framework on which we build professional success and personal happiness. They also lay out the path, one should follow for becoming a successful entrepreneur. If you aim to be successful entrepreneur like some of the more famous ones (Think: Dhirubhai Ambani, Ritesh Agarwal, Sachin Bansal)
“We first make our habits, and then our habits make us.” – John Dryden
Here are some 5 habits that you could change right now and create a difference in your life.
1. Sleeping too late
Are you late riser? Do you skip breakfast rush out of your house every morning just to reach office in time? You need to stop doing that right now! We have all heard the saying, “The early bird catches the worm” which simply implies early risers achieve great things.
According to a research by Harvard biologist Christoph Randler, people who wake early are more proactive, and can anticipate problems better and come up with better solutions. Waking up early also means more time for exercise, for your family and for yourself. Morning is the only period of the day, when you can make time for yourself without being stressed.
So, wake up early, hit the gym, meditate, eat a healthy breakfast, plan your day and then leave for office.
2. Multitasking
Multitasking is really the evil in disguise. If you wish to become a successful entrepreneur, do not, I repeat, do not try and multitask.
You may think that by reading the newspaper or watching the TV while eating your breakfast, you’re multitasking. Let me assure you, you’re not! You just take longer to get that piece of food in your mouth, longer to chew it, and you don’t even concentrate fully on the news! (Trust me, I know)
Instead, just work on one thing at a time. Finish that report you were reading, and then go on to read that text you just received on your phone.
P.S. Listening to music and working is not multitasking either.
3. Having a negative mental attitude
The most important thing of all is to have a positive mental attitude. With a positive attitude, you can aim to climb higher and reach your goals. Negative thoughts will only pull you down.
Every person in this world has seen some kind of failure or setback in his life. We wouldn’t be having electricity today, if Edison decided to give up after his first try. No. Instead he kept trying for over 2000 times, before he perfected the light bulb. It was his determination to achieve something and to make the world a better place, along with the constant thought that he can achieve it, was what lead to his success. Positive attitude is a must if you want to become a successful entrepreneur.
It’s all in the attitude. You can get over the worst adversities only if you have an optimistic attitude towards life.
4. Selling yourself short
We all know what that means, “Don’t underestimate yourself!” Underestimating yourself means not having enough confidence to believe in yourself, doubting your abilities, and not believing in the power to achieve something great. Trying to delve into a something new comes with its fears and concerns, but you need to rise above them and give it your all.
Starting a company is a long-term commitment, but remember, if you underestimate yourself at any point, you might lose out on a great opportunity. Do you think Colonel Sanders (owner of the famous KFC) underestimated himself or his chicken even after his recipe was rejected by numerous restaurants? No, he didn’t. Instead he went out there, and started his own brand! Keeping faith in your abilities will definitely boost your confidence and make you a successful entrepreneur.
5. Follow a daily routine
It’s one of the simplest, and still one of the best changes you can make in your life that will immensely help in shaping you into a successful entrepreneur. Develop a simple routine of how you want to start/end your day in general, or your workday.
For example, you could begin your day with some exercise or yoga, followed by a protein shake or coffee. For the beginning of your workday, the best thing to do is to go to over the day’s schedule and prepare for any meetings that you have. At the end of the workday, going over the reports, accounts, and minutes of the meetings, and planning the next day in advance is a good idea.
Establishing a daily routine will help you firm your productive habits and give a proper direction to your everyday life. It’ll help you make sure that all things that you wanted done everyday are being done.
Changing your habits overnight is obviously an impossible task, as is working on too many things. So take up one habit at a time, and don’t attempt to change yourself overnight. Take a month and develop the habit slowly.
