In fact all of us are.
When you were born, you shouted like hell, “I’m here.”
When you were a hungry kid, you shouted again. As a collegiate you did stupid bike stunts to get mass attention (generally, among girls). And also as a grown up adult, when you were unhappy with a product from Flipkart, the first thing you did was, calling customer service and ‘shouted’, merely to be taken seriously.
You spammer!
Actually, all of us grew spamming all the way, and later we adopted this into our work as well, especially we marketers became the king of spamming.
Google gave a search engine to the world to find best available information of our need, and we found spammers. In the name of SEO, businesses knew they were paying for spamming, and SEO agencies were getting paid for spamming, until one good morning when Google decided to overhaul.
With rise of digital communication, we found an innovative medium to share our expertise for good of a seeker, but we started producing spam articles only for our good, till the day Google overhauled again.
And now we all are doing the same with ‘Contenting’; we are producing junk.
Imagine if every next Bollywood flick is a love story, with just different cast & costumes, but only love stories. Will it be able to attract you continuously? Will it be able to monetize your viewership? Nope.
Similarly, digital content or, Contentory as we call it, is for real humans who have an ever evolving need of change & newness. So what should be the approach?
The world of cinema presents a wonderful example here for us, on how to stay relevant, interesting, and producing content for profit. Because when you write a movie, you write for profit, first for your audience (ie. Entertaining them), and then for yourself (ie. You earn). Ever heard of someone on target of releasing 1 movie per week? No… but we do ‘Contenting’ that way.
The entire community of cinema understands that they can’t bear to produce garbage, collectively and/or individually. And that is, what keep them so interesting every week.
Is your serving too, enough interesting every week?
